Thrifty Thursday: Prescription Coupons, FSA Accounts

Thanks to my mom for this one:). If you go to individual drug makers web sites (just Google search them) you can often print off coupons or rebates for your prescription and non-prescription medicines. She said she got $20 in coupons the other day. Some it looks like you can do it every time you want one and some are a one time deal.

I take Zyrtec D and I found a $2 off coupon here and a $10 off rebate coupon for Astelin here.

Also, if you have a flexible spending account, make sure to claim all your money in your account with reimbursable drug and medical costs. Most companies allow 2007 claims up until March 15, 2008, so you still have a few weeks. If you do not use the tax-free money, you lose it so make sure to use all in the account.

If you do not have an FSA account, you can deduct medical expenses and costs if you itemize on your tax returns.

Thrifty Thursday - Digital TV Transition - Converter Coupon

Yes I know it's Friday, but whatever:).

Therefore, next year, television will no longer be broadcast in analog and the television signals are to be converted to digital. I am not an expert, by any means, but have figured out this means our television, which does not have a digital converter box, will be obsolete. After a bit more research, I found out that I don't have to go out and buy a new TV if we want to still have TV (much to my husband's dismay).

First of all, if you get cable, I believe you don't have to make any major changes until 2012, but don't quote me on that.

If you are not getting an HDTV or DTV anytime soon and we would like to still have our basic stations even. You can get a coupon for $40 off a converter box (they are supposed to retail at between $50 and $60) while the coupons last.

Thrifty Thursdays: Returns On Printer Cartridges

I don't know about you, but we go through a ridiculous number of printer cartridges. A great way to not only recycle them, but get instant savings is to save them and bring them into an office supply store the next time you need to buy some.

Most stores like Office Depot and Office Max can refill them or give you a store credit toward additional ones. I have five on my desk.

At OfficeMax you can get $3 off your purchase for each one you bring in (up to five per day). At Office Depot, you receive a $3 coupon for a future purchase.

For me, that is a free cartridge usually every few months. That means I can use the $15 for something fun, like going out to lunch, or something we need, like paying more toward our debt.

The little things add up. Take a look at this story my dad sent me this week. This guy bought a truck in cash with money he had saved up since he last bought a car 13 years ago... how awesome is that!
